There’s room for improvement when it comes to agriculture industry workers in Niagara. A report from the Niagara Workforce Planning Board says about 75 per cent of workers lack motivation and about 30 per cent don’t have the skills.
The report suggests working with high schools, colleges and universities, and Employment Ontario to find long-term solutions to the problem. Both local employees and migrant workers brought in by Niagara’s farms were included in the study.
Researchers says employers are struggling to find local workers and are turning to foreign workers to fill the gaps. About 30 per cent of ag industry employers say finding workers is extremely difficult.
